Phlebotomy Training in Georgia

Georgia offers many opportunities for phlebotomy training. The state has basic requirements for applicants. Many schools offer classes in a variety of cities within Georgia. The outlook for phlebotomists in Georgia is positive.

Any person who wishes to be certified in phlebotomy must meet the following requirements. They must be a graduate of high school or hold a GED. An application and proof of education completion must be mailed to the phlebotomy training program in Georgia. In addition, the applicant must be 18 or older and complete a criminal background check and drug test.

The requirements for training to be a phlebotomist in Georgia have several components. The students must complete 20 hours each of basic class and 20 hours of advanced training, 40 hours of training in a clinic and 50 sessions of veni punctures and 10 derma skin punctures on patients.

Following training, applicants must complete several steps. They must receive the completion certification from the training center attended and create a file that includes the application and phlebotomy certificate that are both sent to the Georgia Certification organization. The student takes the exam and receives the completion receipt and joins the website online to pay the application fee electronically.

Accredited programs for Certificate in Phlebotomy have the general requirements of 42 hours of classroom training and 120 hours of experience in clinical training. Students complete classes in physiology, anatomy, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, health care law and medical terminology. Students receive clinical training at a variety of sites under experienced technicians.Starting phlebotomist receive job training by supervisors and orientation.

While completing accredited phlebotomy training, students complete the eligibility requirements and study for a certification exam which is provided by various agencies that include the American Society of Phlebotomy Technicians, the American Medical Technologists, and the National Health Career Association. A person working as a phlebotomist in Georgia receives an average salary of $38,000 a year. The cost of living in Georgia is higher than average with the state ranking 16 out of 50.Phlebotomists make a fairly decent living. The state of Georgia provides potential phlebotomy students many opportunities for training in many local programs in cities. The applicants must complete application requirements, training and completion of the required exams.
